IE6 Installation Problem

I helped a user do a repair installation of Windows 2000. After reinstallation, I had to install IE6 again. When I ran ie6setup.exe, it says

“A previous installation has pending work requiring s reboot. you need to restart your computer to complete the installation before running Internet explorer. Setup will now close.”

. The problem persists even after I reboot the machine for several times. I tried several suggestions that I found on web but they all failed to resolve the problem. Finally, I found this solution. Just open up regedit.exe and browse to this key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Find the PendingFileRenameOperations value and delete it.

My readers said this works for Adobe CS3 installation, too.

  1. Holy crap! Thank you, thank you thank you. You know how long I’ve been searching for an answer like this. I didn’t have the problem with IE6 but with an Adobe CS3 installation. All is good in the world now.

  2. I went to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

and I found the “FileRenameOperations” value and delete it. However the system doesn’t allow me to delete the value. Value data: 0000.
    What can I do ?

    Thanks
