We just got the installation media for Acrobat Creative Suite 4. It requires SP3 on Windows XP, so I tried to install SP3 on the machine first.

The first part of the installation went smoothly, but the process got stuck when the installer showed “Running processes after installation.” I waited about one hour and there was no progress. Finally I canceled the installation. Thankfully, the system restored to the previous state automatically.
I searched the internet for clues and didn’t find anything useful. I then realized that I didn’t disable the Anti-Virus program and firewall. On my second try, I disabled those two programs and the whole process finished quickly and without any issues.
