H&R Block on macOS Ventura Problems Solved

I have been using H&R Block on Mac for years. My exprience with the product was mostly trouble tree. However, I ran into several problems on my M1 MacBook Pro running macOS Ventura this year (2022 tax year). Read on to learn about the problems and how to solve them.

Constant Crashing

The first problem I had is the program keeps crashing. I tried to see if there is an update for the program, but I was already on the latest update for the program. My OS version was 13.0.1 which is a bit dated. I decided to upgrade my OS to the latest version and see if it improves. Fortunately, after upgrading to latest version. The problem was solved. H&R Block never crashes again.

Printing Problem

When I tried to print my state return, I found that the printout is messed up. The font got enlarged, the printout only shows part of the page. Upon googling the solution, I found this thread on Apple’s discussions. One person suggested deleting existing printers from Printers & Scanners. I did that and it worked for me.Here is what I did.

  • Close H&R Block if it’s running.
  • Click on System Settings -> Printers & Scanners.
  • Click on each printer entry under Printers and remove them.
  • Open H&R Block.
  • Print your return.
  • With the print dialog open, you can setup a printer from there to print your return or generate a PDF and print it later.
